Thank you Dr. Vernon
Dr. Vernon is always inspirational to listen to. I never knew about "Linkedin" before his presentation. I thought it was interesting how many more followers PETA and the Humane society have than do the Farm Bureau, USDA, and etc. combined. Being a good leader and advocate for agriculture is important for the success of our industry. With technology and social media the way it is today it's easy to communicate with people around the world. I also thought Dr. Vernon's "rule of thirds" for facebook was a cool concept. 1/3 posts: personal, 1/3 posts: point-to links, 1/3 posts: authentic agricultural info.

why are we here
I'm here at Cal Poly to further develop my educational skills. Mr. Gearhart is right about our writing being lazy. A lot of the time it would just take a couple extra minutes to re-read the paper and fix errors. Our reliance on spell check to correct all errors has us at a disadvantage. This paper was difficult to write because I feel like this was an assignment that I've never done before. I've never had to interview someone I hardly knew (for only 7 1/2 minutes) and come up with a legitimate story idea. I think I'm going to read my work out loud at least a couple of times from now on before I turn it in.

Communication
I find it interesting how differently, than any other generation, we communicate with each other. Fifteen years ago if we wanted to plan a date with someone we would call them and make a plan. Now our communication is composed of facebook and text messaging. This to me makes us vulnerable as a generation because we begin to lack the ability to communicate to people face to face. Everything becomes a little more impersonal. That aside though, this enables endless amounts of marketing abilities and second to second communication with any one in the world... That's pretty cool.

Any bias I may have and reaction to class...
I usually try to stay away from having a bias if possible. If I have to pick one though I will admit I tend to have a bias towards "Nor-Cal" points of view. I was born and raised in the Northern California area so that's where my bias originates. Northern California is especially in the spot light with Ag right now because of all the water that is up there. I also like NorCal wine more than wine that I have tried around the central coast. So far I am generally satisfied with this course. I have never had or even viewed a blog before so this will be an interesting objective throughout the course.
